Partnership of Catholic Schools

Saint Catherine of Siena School and five other area Catholic elementary schools have become part of a new initiative in Catholic education called the “Partnership of Catholic Schools”.  A model envisioned by Xaverian Brothers High School’s (XBHS) Headmaster, Brother Dan Skala, the partnership seeks to provide a seamless transition from middle to high school in this area of the Archdiocese.  It is an exciting opportunity to strengthen Catholic education Pre-K through Grade 12 and to provide educational experiences for students, parents and teachers.

Last March at XBHS the “Partnership of Catholic Schools” was formally announced.  At a luncheon hosted by Brother Dan, and the Xaverian Community, pastors, principals, faculty and staff of the partnership, listened as Superintendent Mary Grassa O’Neill praised the vision that will enhance the Catholic education of over 2,500 students.

The relationship between SCS and XBHS has always been mutually beneficial.  When Xaverian opened its doors in September of 1963, it was a gift to parents, who wanted their sons to receive a Catholic secondary education.  Over forty years later, parents of young men, who attend Saint Catherine of Siena School, have been able to depend on XBHS.  They know this community will build on the firm foundation their sons have received at SCS.

The principals of the participating schools meet together every other month, as a learning community, dedicated to enhancing Catholic education.  In a spirit of collaboration, a special “Partnership of Catholic Schools” Open House for the boys who attend SCS and the other elementary schools in the partnership was held in October.  A professional day for faculty, staff and administration of all the schools will held on March 15, 2010.  The speaker will be Jane E. Regan an Associate Professor at Boston College.  The focus of the day will be adult faith formation and spiritual development.  For the past two summers, Xaverian has hosted a summer camp for two weeks, offering both boys and girls in the partnership the opportunity to engage in the arts, academics, athletics and technology.

In the future, the principals in the partnership will be supporting academic excellence by aligning curricula at the middle and high school levels, assuring a smooth high school academic transition.  Brother Dan Skala and the Xaverian Community are offering the use of their theatre, playing fields and computer labs for use by our students in the future.  Finally, parent programs on topics of interest will be offered to our parents and guardians.  We are proud to be a part of this outstanding partnership, and are grateful for the leadership of Brother Dan and the gifted principals, who form the partnership.  Together we are molding a bright future for Catholic education.
