Schedule for Catholic Schools Week 2016 

THEME: Catholic Schools:  Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service

January 31 – February 5, 2016

Sunday, January 31 – Mass Celebrating Catholic Schools Week

  • Family Mass Celebrating Catholic Schools Week –  9:00 a.m.
  • St. Catherine Youth Choir will sing at the Mass.
  • Family Breakfast will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Cafeteria
  • Scholastic Book Fair will begin during the Family Breakfast
  • Open House for New and Prospective Parents – 12 noon in the Gym

Faith – Students participate fully in the Mass as lectors, altar servers, greeters and with parents.

Knowledge -  Students read a book purchased at the Scholastic Book Fair or other book of their choosing.

Service – Grade 8 students serve as greeters and helpers at Family Breakfast.  Student Ambassadors give tours during Open House for New and Prospective Parents.

Monday, February 1 – Pastor and Priest Appreciation Day

  • Coffee and pastry in both Teachers Rooms compliments of HASA
  • Know Your Saints Quiz at Morning Prayer
  • Grade 8 students participate in the Catholic TV Mass celebrated by Father Jean Pierre.
  • Thank You Tribute to Father Donohoe, Monsignor Ryan, Father Jean Pierre (right after Morning Prayer)
  • Lunch for Pastor, Priests, and Parish Staff compliments of HASA – 12 noon
  • Scholastic Book Fair during lunches and after-school from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Dress Code for Today:  Uniform with crazy socks

Faith – Students write a short prayer during Religion Class to display in hallways and classrooms. Grade 8 students participate in the Catholic TV Mass celebrated by Father Jean Pierre.

Knowledge –  Know Your Saints Quiz at Morning Prayer

Service -  Winter Sock Drive for the Homeless begins. Students should bring in at least one pair of new adult size white socks to be donated to St. Francis House in downtown Boston.

Tuesday, February 2 – Parent and Family Appreciation Day

  • Coffee and pastry in both Teachers’ Rooms compliments of HASA
  • 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. – Open House Visitation Day – Parents and families may come and visit in classrooms. Feel free to invite all family members, including grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
  • 10:00 a.m. – St. Catherine Youth Choir will sing a tribute song for parent and family visitors in foyer.
  • 10:00 a.m. – Open House for New Families – 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. – Teachers’ Room/6:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Auditorium
  • Student work will be displayed
  • Scholastic Book Fair during lunches and after-school from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Dress Code for Today:   Uniforms

Faith –  Prayer for Families at Morning Prayer

Knowledge – Students display written work in the hallways and classrooms.

Service – Students bring a can of soup to school for the Norwood Food Pantry.

Wednesday, February 3 – Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day

  • Coffee and pastry in both Teachers’ Rooms compliments of HASA
  • Prayer for Teachers at Morning Prayer
  • 11:00 – 1:00 – Faculty Appreciation Lunch compliments of HASA
  • 1:00 – 2:00 – Middle School students will be paired with Pre-School, Pre-K, K, and Elementary classrooms for board  games, reading, and art projects in classrooms.
  • Scholastic Book Fair during lunches and after-school from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Dress Code for Today: Favorite sports team

Faith –  Students demonstrate the virtue of gratitude by bringing in a thank you card, gift, or short note of appreciation for teachers and  Prayer for Teachers at Morning Prayer.

Knowledge –  Math Problem of the Day

Service -  Middle School students work with younger students with board games, reading, and art projects.

Thursday, February 4 – Student Appreciation Day

  • Coffee and pastry in both Teachers Rooms compliments of HASA
  • Guest children’s book illustrator Rob Buyea presents for middle school students – 8:05 – 12:15 – Book signing – 12:15 – 12:45
  • No homework or tests will be given.
  • Scholastic Book Fair during lunches and after-school from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Dress Code for Today:  Wear your favorite sports team’s sweatshirt or tee shirt.

Faith –  At Morning Prayer, students read selections from prayers they composed.

Knowledge -  Middle School students will learn how authors write their books.

Service – 

Friday, February 5 – Spirit Day

  • Coffee and pastry in both Teachers Rooms compliments of HASA
  • Members of the Student Council will judge best dressed contests during first period – Elementary and then Middle School
  • Morning Activities for Pre-School, Pre-K, K, and Grades 1 – 5 in gym – 9:00 – 10:30
  • Cupcakes or popsicles at all lunches compliments of HASA
  • Scholastic Book Fair during lunches
  • Awarding of prize certificates for winners of Elementary best dressed contest by Student Council members at lunches – one boy and one girl per class
  • Announcement of Middle School winners of best dressed and best door decorating contests by Student Council members at Middle School Lunch
  • Pep Rally for Middle School students in gym – 12:45 – 2:15 p.m.
    • The Hawk will make an appearance.
    • Introduction of teams and players – Junior Boys, Senior Boys, Junior Girls, Senior Girls – Honor Our Teams!
    • Games – Junior Boys vs. Junior Girls – 20 minutes; Senior Boys vs. Senior Girls – 20 minutes
    • Cheerleaders – 1:15 – 1:20 p.m.
    • Dodgeball – Grade 6 – 1:40 – 1:50; Grade 7 – 1:50 – 2:00; Grade 8 – 2:00 – 2:10
  • Dress Code for Today:  Show your school spirit by dressing in the school colors – blue and gold
  • Events conclude with thank you to all.

Faith – Thanksgiving Prayer at Morning Prayer for the gift of faith and the gift of Catholic education.

Knowledge –  Students in each class vote on favorite Catholic Schools Week activity and prepare a graph to show results.

Service -  Students bring in a new or gently used book to donate to ReadBoston.
