Welcome, from the Principal

Welcome to St. Catherine of Siena School! As we begin the 2007-2008 academic school year, we look back on a glorious past and look ahead to an exciting future. This year we call upon the Holy Spirit to come down upon us, to guide us, and give us wisdom. We ask that the Spirit renew all of us, and our commitment to our sacred mission.

For more than eighty years, St. Catherine of Siena School has been providing a Catholic, faith-based education for children in pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Founded by the Sisters of Saint Joseph in September 1926, the school is now staffed by 40 degreed and certified lay teachers and administrators.

The school exists in the context of the parish community, to assist families in guiding their children spiritually, academically, emotionally and physically. Rooted in Gospel values, and Roman Catholic doctrine and tradition, the school is dedicated to helping all students recognize their gifts and reach their God-given potential.

Every morning children, faculty, staff, administrators and priests join in the auditorium to begin our day in prayer. Our school culture, educational philosophy and methodology are a natural outgrowth of our adherence to our motto, "See Christ in others. Be Christ for others." St. Catherine of Siena modeled this belief in all she said and did. She was a faithful woman, who allowed herself to be guided by the Holy Spirit. May we find the strength and courage to be led by God, as she was. In the words of St. Catherine of Siena,

You are a fire that burns within me, to consume my self-love,
a fire that takes away the chill in my heart.
You are a light that illuminates my soul with your truth, a light
that ignites a faith that is strong, constant and persevering.
Clothe me with your truth that I may finish my course
in true obedience and in the light of faith.
You have surrounded me with your goodness and gentle mercy.
You have nourished in me a love for you and my neighbor.
Thank you, eternal Father, thank you.

Amen
